Latest Liverpool news: Shaka Hislop claims Liverpool could beat Bayern in almost every position

Liverpool play their first leg Champions League round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich at Anfield on Tuesday, and ESPN pundit Shaka Hislop believes the Reds have the advantage.

Bayern have dominated the Bundesliga in recent years, however, they have struggled under new manager Niko Kovac. The Bavarians trail Borussia Dortmund in the league and were unconvincing in their 3-2 win over Augsburg too.

Hislop believes the Reds are superior in almost every position, and the only thing in favour of the Germans was their experience (h/t Daily Star):

“You look at this Bayern team and if you want to compare and contrast with Liverpool, the only advantage I see the having over Liverpool is in experience.”

The former Premier League keeper added that even with experience, Bayern were an ageing side and claimed that he wasn’t sure how many players from the Bundesliga side would fit into the Liverpool team.

“There is really nobody in this Bayern team that I think gets into this Liverpool team right now.

“Maybe Thiago and Kimmich, but not on tonight’s showing, outside of that I think Liverpool have this Bayern team beat in every other position.”

Both clubs missing players

Bayern will be without the services of Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller, while Liverpool would be without Virgil van Dijk for the first leg.

It will be interesting to see how both teams cope with their problems. The Reds have the advantage of playing at Anfield and Bayern are there for the taking.

Even with Manuel Neuer returning from a thumb injury, the Reds should have enough firepower to end the night with a win and hopefully, a clean sheet.
