Latest Liverpool news: Reds handed boost as two key Manchester City players pick up injuries
Manchester City were dealt a double blow in the Carabao Cup win over Chelsea on penalties.
Pep Guardiola’s side won the first title of the English season but saw Aymeric Laporte and Fernandinho pick up injuries against the Blues.
The Liverpool Echo reports that Laporte had to leave with a hamstring issue while Fernandinho picked up a groin problem during extra time.
Pep Guardiola further claimed that the pair could be out for a while (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“The players felt something, muscular, they will be out for some weeks.”
Although the Cityzens have one of the best sides in Europe, Fernandinho is an important player for them.
The Cityzens will miss the Brazilian in their midfield, and it will be interesting to see how they perform in the coming days.
Big battle on for the Premier League title
Liverpool played out a drab 0-0 affair with Manchester United on Sunday. The point saw us leapfrog City to the top of the Premier League, and the pressure is really on both sides as only 11 games remain in the league campaign.
Although City have been in better form than us in recent weeks, replacing Fernandinho will not be easy. The Cityzens went through a blip losing to Crystal Palace and Leicester City in December.

Fernandinho was missing from the team during those losses, and hopefully, Guardiola’s men drop some points in the coming weeks.
