Latest Liverpool news: Harry Kane could be banned for Liverpool-Tottenham clash

Tottenham lost to Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge which pushed them further away from Liverpool.

The 5-0 win over Watford by the Reds opened up a nine-point gap to Spurs, and their title aspirations are more or less over.

Spurs were poor in the loss to the Blues and could be handed more problems as former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg believes the FA could take retrospective action against Harry Kane.

The Englishman seemed to headbutt Cesar Azpilicueta during the game but the Spaniard didn’t make a meal of the incident.

The Liverpool Echo adds that should Kane be handed a three-match ban, he would miss the 31 March clash at Anfield.

Harry Kane of Tottenham

Writing in his Daily Mail column (h/t Liverpool Echo), Clattenburg claimed Kane was a lucky man not to be sent off despite making minimal contact with Azpilicueta.

The former Premier League referee added:

“Even if it was an attempted headbutt, that still carries the same punishment – a red card.

“Fortunately for Kane, Azpilicueta did not make a meal of it. The incident seemed to be missed by the match officials and the FA could now take retrospective action against Kane.”

Liverpool supreme against Watford

The Reds were fantastic in all departments against Watford and it is important we continue playing in the same manner till the end of the season.

After a couple of goal-less draws, the Reds destroyed the Hornets, and we could have scored more than the five goals.

Not facing Kane would be a massive boost as Tottenham is one of the hardest fixtures we have in the remainder of the season.
