Liverpool FC transfer news: Liverpool enter the race for Nicolas Pepe

Liverpool have entered the race for the signature of Lille star Nicolas Pepe, reports French outlet Le10sport.

The Ivory Coast international, 23, has been in sensational form this season, scoring 19 goals and laying on 11 assists, and was involved in three of Lille’s goals in their recent 5-1 win over champions-elect Paris Saint-Germain.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Barcelona are believed to poised to battle it out to sign Nicolas Pepe, though Le10sport claim Liverpool are the latest club to have expressed an interest in the explosive winger.

And the Reds are looking at the 23-year-old due to the uncertainty of Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield, adds the report. The French outlet say Jurgen Klopp-managed Liverpool could sell Salah if a big offer arrives in the summer transfer window.

Hence, the Merseysiders are worried about the Egyptian’s future and want Pepe as his successor, with Klopp’s side even putting him on the “short list”.

Pepe to replace Salah at Anfield?

This rumour is very bizarre! Just a day after Salah’s agent dismissed the rumours of the Egyptian leaving our club in the summer, we come across this story.

Our interest in Pepe is possible as the Ivorian is one of the sought-after players in Europe right now. Perhaps, Klopp wants to bolster his attacking ranks further and is targeting the 23-year-old skilful winger.

But I simply don’t see Salah leaving Anfield at the end of the season. The ex-Roma ace is very well settled at our club, a regular starter under Klopp and a firm favourite at Anfield. Thus, there’s no way we will see our flying Egyptian in a different colour other than the famous Red next season.
