Liverpool vs Barcelona ratings: Liverpool player ratings

Liverpool did the unthinkable as they routed Barcelona 4-0 in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final.

The Reds needed a miracle to qualify for the final, and they got it while being backed by an incredible crowd at Anfield.

Barcelona never got into the game with Divock Origi scoring early on. The Reds kept on pushing to find the goals to cancel Barca’s 3-0 advantage after the first leg, however, they had to make a key substitution at half-time.

Luis Suarez seemed to kick out at Andy Robertson and the Scot was replaced by Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Dutch midfielder scored a couple of important goals in the second half and the final nail in Barcelona’s coffin came via Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner.

The Englishman took a quick corner which Origi converted and the Reds held on for one of their greatest European wins at Anfield.

Liverpool now await to see who makes the final between Tottenham and Ajax, but we should be confident of doing well.

The Reds barely missed Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, who were out with injuries, and now prepare for one last chance at the Premier League title.

A slip by Manchester City could open the door for us to lift the crown, and that would be fitting given how the season has gone for us.

Liverpool player ratings

Alisson – 8.5/10

The Brazilian kept us in the game by denying Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho and Messi. Alisson was great with his distribution and did not make a single mistake in an incredible night.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 10/10

Trent was great against Newcastle but was even better against Barcelona. The Englishman did not allow much to go down his flank and was fantastic in the attack. His cross led to the first goal from Wijnaldum before quick thinking got us the fourth.

Joel Matip – 8.5/10

Matip had another excellent game at the back and barely gave anything away to Suarez.

Virgil van Dijk – 9/10

The Dutch defender should have had a penalty in the second half when his jersey was tugged, but it did not matter. Van Dijk, like Matip, was supreme at the back and thwarted anything that Messi and co. threw at him.

Andy Robertson – 7/10

It was a little upsetting to see Robertson leaving after a clash with Suarez. The Scot looked up for the game, and hopefully, he will be back at the weekend.

Jordan Henderson – 8.5/10

The captain set the ball rolling as his run allowed Origi to score the opener. Henderson was like a man possessed as he barely gave Barcelona any breathing room.

Fabinho – 8.5/10

The Brazilian was walking on thin ice after picking up a harsh booking early in the game. However, that did not stop Fabinho from completely nullifying the Barcelona team, almost single-handedly, at times.

James Milner – 8.5/10

Milner put in another fantastic shift for the Reds and had to play the majority of the second half as the left-back.

Sadio Mane – 8/10

Mane did not score a goal but his pace and movement caused all sorts of problems for Barcelona. The Senegal star’s interception helped us score the first goal and his energy was too much for Barca at times.

Divock Origi – 9/10

Origi seems to be making it a habit to score important goals for us. The Belgian’s poaching instincts helped him score the first and he was quick to react to Trent’s cross to score our fourth.

Xherdan Shaqiri – 7.5/10

Shaqiri looked a little rusty for the Reds as he gave away possession a number of times, but came up with the cross for the third goal.

Substitutes

Georginio Wijnaldum – 9/10

Gini produced an incredible 45 minutes as two quick-fire goals brought us back into the tie. The Dutch midfielder produced a moment of brilliance too as he left two Barcelona players in his dust with a neat bit of skill.

Joe Gomez – NA

Did alright in the defence for the final few minutes.
