Latest Liverpool transfer news: Kai Havertz expected to join Bayern Munich
Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their chase for German sensation Kai Havertz.
The Bayer Leverkusen star racked up 20 goals and three assists in all competitions for the Bundesliga side this season, and the 19-year-old also played in a friendly for Germany.
Havertz is one of the brightest talents in the Bundesliga, and Leverkusen’s sporting director Reiner Calmund told Bild that the 19-year-old will join Bayern Munich (h/t Metro):
“Kai Havertz will go to Bayern next year, not this year.
“He will not move [this summer]. Leverkusen want to enjoy him a bit longer but he’ll move on. Hopefully, he stays in Germany, and the club that can do that is Bayern.”
The report adds that Arsenal are also interested in the 19-year-old, who has formed a great relationship with Leon Bailey and Julian Brandt at the club.
Havertz to shine in the Champions League?
The report adds that Havertz is unlikely to switch clubs in the summer as Leverkusen qualified for the Champions League.
It makes sense for a young German to remain in his homeland and possibly play for the biggest club in the Bundesliga at some point of his career, however, Liverpool are on the up and showcased their Champions League prowess by beating Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Havertz could have been a great talent under Klopp but the youngster would not get regular starts given the players we have in the current team.
