Liverpool FC transfer news: James Maddison responds to links away from Leicester City

Leicester City’s James Maddison made the transition from the Championship to the Premier League without breaking a sweat.

The former Norwich City midfielder scored seven goals and provided seven assists in his debut season with the Foxes.

The 22-year-old impressed under former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and responded to links with the Reds (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Maddison is with the U21 England side as they prepare for the Euros, and he was asked about his £60m price-tag and if transfer rumours would play on his mind (h/t Leicestershire Live).

The youngster replied that he would ignore it and would not let these rumours distract him:

“No, you have just got to ignore that and take it all in your stride. As a 17 year-old boy I’d started five games for Coventry and saw on my phone that I was being linked with Tottenham and Liverpool.

“With transfer talk you need to take it as a compliment that people are even talking about you, it won’t distract me.”

Maddison needs to make the right decision for his future

The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg tweeted that Liverpool are one of several Premier League clubs interested in the 22-year-old.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Spurs are also keeping tabs on the midfielder, and Steinberg suggested that Maddison is in no rush to seal a move away from the Foxes.

Liverpool have a well-stocked midfield and should see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s best this season. The midfielder returned from a major knee injury and will provide us with more attacking intent from the heart of the park.

However, we should keep an eye on Maddison as he has the potential to be one of the best in the Premier League.
