Liverpool FC transfer news: George Johnston wanted by West Bromwich Albion

Birmingham Mail claims that West Bromwich Albion are one of five clubs interested in Liverpool youngster George Johnston.

The 20-year-old centre-back has already featured under Jurgen Klopp during pre-season but is unlikely to play first-team games next season.

The Reds have four first-choice centre-backs at the moment, and also signed highly-rated Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg in the summer.

Fabinho also played in that position last season while Ki-Jana Hoever can take up that role too.

The report claims that Johnston impressed Klopp in the summer, and the German wants to send the centre-back out on loan for regular first-team action.

It is to be seen if Johnston is allowed to leave Merseyside in the summer, with several Championship clubs interested in him.

The Birmingham Mail adds that Bilic wants to add more players in the summer. The Baggies have only signed Filip Krovinovic on a season-long loan deal so far.

Another youngster to move away on loan?

Johnston could do with a loan move in order to receive regular first-team games, and he could prosper under the right manager. Liverpool have seen youngsters Ryan Kent, Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic excel in recent seasons, away on loan.

Johnston has mostly played for the U23s for over two seasons, and this seems to be the right time for him to make a move away from the club to build his career.
