Dejan Lovren has no regrets over failed summer move
Dejan Lovren did not seem to have a future at Liverpool after being linked with AC Milan and AS Roma in the summer (h/t Evening Standard).
The 30-year-old seemed set to move but Liverpool’s £15m (h/t Evening Standard) valuation ensured he remained at the club.
However, the Croatian has put in some quality performances for us despite starting the season as the fourth choice.
Joe Gomez has looked a little sluggish this season while Lovren did a great job in place of Joel Matip against Leicester. The Croatian was speaking about his failed summer move but claimed that he will always give 100% to the team (h/t Evening Standard):
“The transfer window time is now over.
“I will always be here if I am needed. I am giving more than 100 per cent for this club from day one.”
Lovren also spoke about how difficult it was to remain at the club in the summer, but didn’t have regrets over the failed move:
“Let’s see what will happen. It was a challenge for me this summer to stay here but I gave everything in pre-season and I fought. There are always some new challenges, maybe, in front of you.
“It depends whether you accept them or not but it also depends on whether you are needed in the team or not. In the end I stayed and I am quite happy.”
Lovren rising to the task
The Croatian fell down the pecking order last season due to the form of Matip and Gomez.
However, it is great that we kept hold of the 30-year-old. Injuries hurt our defence last season and we have already seen Matip miss some games with slight problems.
Keeping four quality centre-backs is the least we can do and if Lovren is to leave, we should find a quality replacement first.
