Jurgen Klopp provides update on Mohamed Salah while Virgil van Dijk suffers knock i n win over Tottenham
Liverpool battered Tottenham into submission at Anfield on Sunday evening.
The Reds picked up a 2-1 win after second-half goals from Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah, but we had several chances in the opening 45 minutes.
Spurs took a shock lead via Harry Kane in the first minute as Son Heung-Min’s deflected effort came off the post.
Kane stooped low to finish neatly, however, the Reds were deserving winners as we kept our six-point lead at the top of the table.
There was some concern for Salah after he left the pitch with an injury, and Jurgen Klopp provided an update on the Egyptian sensation (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“It’s not serious. It’s the ankle, the one he has struggled since the Leicester game.”
The German added that Salah’s ankle is fine but it keeps flaring up the longer a match goes. Klopp suggested that there was no point in keeping him on the pitch as we have options on the bench. He expected the problem to go away soon:
“Nothing serious. It’s not a massive, that will disappear one day, but it’s still a bit there at the moment.”
Van Dijk’s problem
The Dutch defender had one great chance to level the scores in the first half but headed straight at Paulo Gazzaniga.
The Liverpool Echo reports that he suffered a dead leg against Spurs and should be rested against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
Salah too shouldn’t feature in that game and hopefully, the pair is ready to face Aston Villa at the weekend.
