Liverpool contemplate playing two different sides in two competitions on same day after Carabao Cup win
The Mirror reports that Liverpool are considering playing two different teams in two competitions on the same day.
Liverpool beat Arsenal to reach the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. They face Aston Villa on 17th or 18th December but there is a problem.
The Reds will be away in Qatar for the Club World Cup during that time and the report claims that the cup fixture against Villa could be shifted to 8th January.
Villa and Liverpool need to avoid a third-round FA Cup replay too. This would allow for the two-legged semi-final of the Carabao Cup to be held before the final on 1st March.
Liverpool are obliged to name a 23-man squad for the Club World Cup but the report claims that half the team could remain in England for the Carabao Cup clash if the dates aren’t changed.
The group could be led by Pep Lijnders as Klopp takes care of the Club World Cup.
The rest of the team could join for the final of the Club World Cup should Liverpool beat one of three sides in the semi-final.
Success brings headaches
The Reds fielded a young side against Arsenal and we fought hard to win the tie on penalties.
Liverpool came from 3-1, 4-2 and 5-4 down in normal time to level the game in the dying seconds and the kids could do a decent job against Villa too.
The Reds also have Champions League clashes and our progress in the FA Cup could further cause scheduling issues.
However, this is the price to pay for success. The Reds won the UEFA Super Cup recently and we should try to win as many trophies as we can.
