Xherdan Shaqiri happy at Liverpool and keen on staying at club

Xherdan Shaqiri made a surprise first start of the season in the Merseyside derby and was excellent against Everton.

The Swiss star had missed much of this season with injury and only made substitute appearances for Liverpool.

However, he proved his value to the team by scoring a goal and being a threat throughout the 90 minutes.

The 28-year-old hadn’t featured much for us since the second half of the previous season, but Shaqiri is happy at the club.

The Swiss international spoke after the game and was happy at Anfield (h/t Daily Star):.

“I think everyone can see that with how I played. I have a long contract and I am focused only on Liverpool.”

Shaqiri isn’t thinking of leaving

The 28-year-old added that he didn’t have an easy time in the past but wanted to remain at the Reds for long:

“It’s been a difficult time for me but I’m excited about the future.

“Why would I want to leave Liverpool? This is a special team and there’s a lot to achieve here.”

Liverpool have a packed schedule coming up and we need to keep hold of Shaqiri. The Swiss ace can be the game-changer for us and is a quality option off the bench too.

The Swiss star is quality cover for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, and we need him for the rest of the campaign.

Shaqiri only joined the Reds at the start of the previous season and played a huge role in our Champions League win.

The Swiss star was never going to be a starter for us, and hopefully, he continues putting in some quality outings in the coming weeks.
