Genk midfielder Sander Berge hints at January exit for the right offer

According to Het Laatste Nieuws (h/t Daily Mail), talented Norwegian Sander Berge has admitted that he could leave Genk if the right club makes the right offer.

“If the right club comes forward and puts the right amount on the table for me then we can talk “

This should come as welcome news to Liverpool, who have been monitoring the 21-year-old’s progress at Genk. Having played against Genk in the group stages of the Champions League this season, the Reds have had an opportunity to assess Berge firsthand.

Berge had previously commented after playing at Anfield (h/t Liverpool Echo). If Liverpool are serious about wanting him, we must get him.

“Liverpool are the best team [at the moment] and have the most fans. So I could certainly like to play at Anfield as often as possible.”

Spoilt for Choice?

With the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner available, Jurgen Klopp has a plethora of options to choose from.

With such seasoned veterans ahead of him in the pecking order, in the absence of injuries or suspensions, it’s hard to see Berge get enough playtime.

James Milner is nearing the end of his career while the likes of Henderson and Wijnaldum aren’t getting any younger. It would make sense for Liverpool to sign Berge as a long-term replacement. We must loan him out and blood him into the first-team so that he is ready when the time comes.
