Liverpool are open to selling Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer
According to trusted Liverpool journalist James Pearce, Liverpool are open to selling Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer transfer window.
The Swiss international is reportedly a target for both AS Roma and Sevilla. Pearce goes on to say that Liverpool will dismiss any approach to loan the player this month but are willing to sanction a move away in the summer for a reported €30million.
Jurgen Klopp had already confirmed that no first-team player will leave the club this January as Liverpool look on course to win their first league title in 30 years. (h/t Express)
Shaqiri has been beset by injuries and has played a marginal role at Liverpool this season. The Swiss winger has made just 9 appearances for the Reds this season. (h/t Whoscored) Liverpool signing Takumi Minamino is also likely to further limit his time on the pitch.
Even when fit, the 28-year-old has found playtime hard to come by bringing into question, his future at the club. Liverpool also rejected approaches from Roma and AC Milan to take the player on loan this month.
With € 30 million considered to be enough for Liverpool to sell, it will represent a good profit for the Reds who signed Shaqiri for € 14.7 million in the summer of 2018. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Shaqiri played a key role in Liverpool’s success in 2018-19 and was an important rotation player. He famously came in for an injured Mohamed Salah as Liverpool overcame a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.
The winger now has half a season to audition himself for prospective suitors in the summer and given his quality, he shouldn’t have any problems in doing so.
