Leipzig striker Timo Werner proud of Liverpool interest
RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has been linked with a move to Liverpool. The 23-year-old did his reputation no harm by scoring the winner as the Germans defeated Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
This was Werner’s 26th goal in just his 32nd appearances in what has been an impressive season. Speaking to the media after the game against Tottenham, Werner admitted that he is proud to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Reds. (h/t Daily Star)
Staying grounded
Calling Liverpool the best team in the world, he went to call it a source of pleasure.
“When you’re linked with that team it makes you very proud but in case of that, it’s a pleasure.”
In spite of his successful season, he humbly admitted that he still has a long way to go. He believes that he needs to improve in order to play alongside what he thinks are a lot of good players at Anfield.
The German is believed to have a release clause in his contract of £50million. He will become the fourth most expensive player in Liverpool history if he makes the move to Merseyside for that amount.
