Twitter reacts to Jordan Henderson’s importance to Liverpool
It was another abject day at the office for Liverpool as the Reds suffered a third loss in four games following the winter break.
Jurgen Klopp put out a reasonably strong side but goals from Willian and Ross Barkley condemned the Reds to another defeat as the Merseysiders crash out of the FA Cup.
One of the major points discussed after the loss to Watford was the lack of impact Liverpool’s midfield had on the game. It was on show once again here as the Reds midfield played second fiddle to Chelsea.
The likes of Fabinho never got going while Adam Lallana and Curtis Jones showed some good touches but lacked penetration. Klopp took off Lallana and Curtis Jones in the second half for James Milner and Mohamed Salah. It didn’t really make much difference as the midfield failed to connect the attack to the defense.
With an appalling lack of influence in the middle of the park, a number of Liverpool fans called out for captain Jordan Henderson to return to the lineup.
The Liverpool skipper is a man both hated and loved in equal measure. Not the most glamorous of players, he performed the crucial job of connecting the different elements of the Reds team. Most of all he brought leadership to a team that sorely lacked it today.
Henderson picked up an injury against Atletico Madrid and is once again set to sit out Saturday’s match against a struggling Bournemouth side. Whether he makes it in time for the UEFA Champions League second leg against Atletico Madrid or not remains to be seen.
Liverpool needs just 12 more points to claim their first league title in 30 years. A victory on Saturday will ease the pressure on a side that has faltered of late.
We take a look at how some Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to Henderson’s absence below.

These last two defeats could be very problematic. we’re already starting to look like the “old Liverpool” running away from players instead of at them and making crunching tackles, and without Henderson our midfield is atrocious. Need to get our heads right again and quick #lfc
