Sir Kenny Dalglish slams ‘agenda’ over calls for the season to be voided
According to the Sunday Post (h/t Express), Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has slammed the calls to declare the season null and void due to the prevailing coronavirus pandemic. Dalglish has termed it an agenda to prevent the Reds from winning what has been a well-deserved title.
Liverpool currently hold an unprecedented 25-point lead over the chasing pack and can guarantee the title by picking up just six more points. The race for the title is more or less done with the wrapping up of the mathematical certainty just a formality.
The worsening health crisis has seen the Premier League suspend all fixtures until April 3. It is uncertain if the league will resume on the date as a decision will only be taken in April.
Dalglish said that the season should not be declared null and void under any circumstances. He vehemently declared that it would be unfair and out of order to do so.
He questioned if anyone apart from those with an anti-Liverpool agenda will want the league suspended.
“Would any person without an agenda really think it would be the most-sensible outcome to deny Liverpool their chance of winning the title?”
Dalglish believes that playing the remaining games during the summer could the solution to finishing the Premier League. With talks of the Euros being postponed, there could be enough time for the Scotsman’s idea to be made a reality.
He accepted that he is not a medical man and does not have all the data on his fingertips. Dalglish, however, believes that every available possibility should be explored in order to finish the season.
“If that means we need to play every second night for three weeks during May, or even into June, then so be it.”
Accepting that the decision is far from ideal, he declared that since every club is affected by the problem, it is an even playing field.
“It’s far from ideal, I know, but every club would be in the same boat, so it would be a level playing field.”

If the league does resume on April 3, Liverpool will face Manchester City away at the Etihad. A victory will guarantee the title for the Reds as it will be mathematically impossible for our rivals to catch us. Whether the league resumes on April 3 remains to be seen.
