Ki-Jana Hoever prefers to play right-back over centre-back
According to the Liverpool Echo, 18-year-old starlet Ki-Jana Hoever has revealed that he prefers to play at right-back over centre-back.
The revelation came as a part of a Q & A session that the player conducted on Instagram. This took place on his official page as the Reds squad continues to be in self-isolation.
The young Dutchman has played in both positions for the Reds. He scored from right-back against Milton Keynes Dons in the Carabao Cup while he also kept a clean sheet from centre-back in the 1-0 win against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup replay at Anfield.
The youngster has primarily played for the first-team at right-back while he has switched between both positions for the club’s Under-23 side. He is expected to compete alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Neco Williams next season.
The headers against MK Dons was Hoever’s first competitive goal for the club, a memory he describes as an amazing feeling. The goal made him the fourth-youngest scorer in Liverpool history.
The highly-rated Dutchman signed from Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar in 2018. He is held in high regard at Anfield and was a part of the Reds squad that won the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup last year.
He made his competitive debut for Liverpool as a substitute for Dejan Lovren in the FA Cup match against Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2019. Just 16 at the time, he became the then youngest player to represent Liverpool in the FA Cup while being the third youngest overall.
Hoever signed a new long-term deal at Anfield in 2019. He is widely tipped as one of the best upcoming players from the Liverpool youth set-up.
