This is no secret that Liverpool are in a dire need of a striker and their club’s legend Jamie Carragher has rightly said that Liverpool do not really have a first choice centre forward. Soon after that big money move of Luis Suarez from Anfield to Camp Nou, the Merseysiders have struggled to bring in a replacement.
Suarez’s compatriot Daniel Sturridge was supposed to take the attacking throne, but his injuries roadblocked his success. Liverpool’s previous manager made a gamble by bringing the former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli, but the Italian was unable to do a hairpin of damage in Liverpool’s shirt.
Then came the towering Belgian Christian Benteke with a lot of Premier League experience, but soon after the sacking of Rodgers and arrival of Klopp, the striker started to become a surplus for the team. Klopp wanted his players to go for life and challenge for the ball and Benteke was more of a target man, and this was the sole reason, things failed to work out between the two.
Now, according to the reports from The Guardian, Benteke will undergo a medical at Crystal Palace on Friday as their manager has finally decided to pay a club record fee of £27m for the player. So with Benteke gone, Liverpool now only have Sturridge, Origi, and Ings and to be very fair, we certainly agree with Carragher, that neither of them is actually a sole striker for the team.
In that case, we give you three strikers, Liverpool could opt to sign before the deadline date:
-
Mauro Icardi-
The 23-year-old Argentine professional is currently a reported target for Arsenal and if the reports are to be believed, then his agent was spotted in London a few days back, but nothing concrete has happened till date. Without any doubt, Icardi could well solve the attacking crisis for the Merseysiders as he has proved his worth time and time again.
He has the natural eye for goal and is regarded as a hot prospect for the future. At 23 years of age, he has already been listed as one of the top 100 young players born after 1992. He is quick, he is sharp and he is a natural finisher of the ball and besides all of it, his physical strength is something Liverpool can really count upon.
-
Saido Berahino-
Soon after the 2013-14 season, the 23-year-old became the most wanted personnel in the Premier League. Teams like Spurs and Arsenal started their chase for the attacker, but the Baggies managed to keep a hold on him. He had a tough season last time out, but that was mainly because of his injuries.
Now, according to the recent reports from BBC, Baggies boss Tony Pulis has stated that the 23-year-old will only leave the club if an “unbelievable offer” is received, and that means Liverpool might again have to crack the banks, but the player is worth every penny and has a bag full of Premier League experience as well. Because of his intelligent movement on the ball, he is compared to the legends like Eto’o and Drogba and given the record of his goalscoring prowess, he could certainly match the expectations of Klopp.
-
Bas Dost-
Surely a strange name in the list, but the German attacker is worth a shot. Just like Berahino, he had a hard time last season but still managed to net 8 goals in 22 appearances. Teams like Everton and Sunderland have reportedly been chasing the player, hence, the Reds might have to act fast.
Dost is a natural finisher of the ball and even though he has his cons, he is capable of surpassing it with his skills on the pitch. He is an ever present personnel on the field, and thanks to his goal poaching abilities, he’s always in the right place at the right time, and this what Liverpool needs right at this very moment.
