Loris Karius looking forward to Liverpool stay
Speaking to Transfermarkt (h/t Daily Mail), Loris Karius is keen to stay at Liverpool and fight for his place at the club.
The 26-year-old has not made a competitive appearance for the Reds since his horror show in Kyiv against Real Madrid.
Shipped off to Besiktas, he is back now on Merseyside after his stay in Turkey was cut short. With his future uncertain, it is the first time that he has revealed his intention to stay.
“I am fully aware that I am in a good position to be in Liverpool. I have great conditions there.”
Liverpool are currently one of the best teams in the world. Karius believes he will not be able to train at a higher level as a number two elsewhere.
“As the second-choice goalkeeper in England you know that you get your chances.”
He believes he will not be short of opportunities even as a backup. Given the number of times Adrian has had to step up this season, he is not entirely wrong.
Alisson Becker is the undisputed number one choice at Liverpool. Karius will at best be a backup to the Brazilian, something he appears to be fine with.
The former Mainz star is not a bad keeper by any means. In fact, he has made a number of match-winning performances for us.
He has, however, failed to cope with the aftermath of his horrorshow against Madrid. It was evident in his pre-season performances leading up to the 2018-19 campaign.
Time away from Anfield has not been kind to him. He has struggled both on and off the field in Turkey. Back now at Liverpool, it remains to be seen if he can cope with the pressure.
Karius can be an excellent backup keeper. Adrian is not getting younger and has made a number of high-profile mistakes this season. However, in a team of mentality giants, Karius will have to show he has the ability to move on from past mistakes.

Karius joined Liverpool in the summer of 2016. He started off as a backup to Simon Mignolet. Eventually, he took over as the number one the following season, culminating in the disaster in Kyiv. The German has made 49 appearances and has kept 22 clean sheets for the club.
