Liverpool eyeing Paulo Gazzaniga of Tottenham Hotspur claims journo

According to journalist Kevin Palmer on Twitter, Liverpool could be lining up a shock deadline day swoop for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

The 28-year-old Argentine international has been with Tottenham Hotspur since 2017, having joined from Southampton. However, he has largely played second-fiddle to their captain Hugo Lloris.

Following the arrival of Joe Hart on a free transfer earlier this summer, Gazzaniga has dropped further down the pecking order. And, it has been claimed that Tottenham will look to cash in on him before the window closes. (h/t Express)

And now, according to Palmer, Liverpool could be eyeing a shock swoop for the Argentine.

This development comes after star goalkeeper Alisson Becker picked up an injury during training last week, which led to him missing the Aston Villa game on Sunday night.

Speaking after the game, manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the Brazilian could be set for a six-week spell on the sidelines. (h/t Evening Standard)

“Let me say, it could have been worse with that injury, that’s for sure. We were slightly lucky but it’s not that he can play against Everton. I don’t want to put a timeframe on it but four weeks could be possible, six weeks is maybe more likely, but I don’t know.”

Palmer has claimed that there is a chance that Liverpool could loan out third-choice goalkeeper Caiomhin Kelleher this summer, opening up a spot in the goalkeeping department. And the Reds could fill that with Gazzaniga’s signing.

Adrian has looked susceptible in goal each time Alisson hasn’t been available. However, it would be fair to say that Gazzaniga, too, is equally prone to mistakes and might not exactly be an upgrade on the Spaniard.

It remains to be seen if there is any development on this front before the window closes.
