Liverpool’s 19-year-old defender Joe Gomez is expected to return to the training next month, according to the reports from Liverpool Echo.

Gomez is lined up to mark his return to first-team training by the end of October, after a nightmare ACL injury. The 19-year-old was sidelined on international duty with the England U21s last October and is therefore yet to feature under new manager Jurgen Klopp.

He was close on marking his return in mid-July, but he suffered yet another setback as he was diagnosed with tendinopathy in his Achilles. The player may return to the training, but this is unlikely to be followed by his first appearance under Klopp until he has proved his fitness on the training field.

Gomez joined Liverpool last summer from the Championship side Charlton Athletic on a five-year deal for a fee of £3.5 million and till date, he just has seven appearances to his name. Gomez played the majority of his games last season at left-back, and this is where he could initially turn out under Klopp.

Klopp has converted James Milner into his first choice left-back, with Alberto Moreno as deputy, but Gomez’s return would provide him with another, more balanced option.
