Liverpool to not promote Rainbow Laces anti-homophobia campaign on certain social media accounts
A report by The Athletic (h/t Daily Mail) has stated that Liverpool are amongst the English clubs to not promote the Premier League Rainbow Laces campaign on their Arabic and Indonesian social media accounts.
The campaign aims to spread awareness and promote equality irrespective of a person’s gender or sexual preferences.
In the past couple of gameweeks, Premier League clubs have done a variety of things to show support to the LGBT community. From 4th to 13th December, Premier League players sported rainbow-coloured laces and the captains wore rainbow-coloured armbands.
In addition to this, the clubs also showed support on social media. On their primary Twitter account, Liverpool, like other Premier League clubs, added a rainbow badge around their display picture and also put a header image of Jordan Henderson wearing the rainbow-coloured captain’s armband.
This was also replicated on the club’s Brazilian Twitter account. However, the Arabic and Indonesian accounts saw no such solidarity from the club, with no changes to the header image and display picture. (h/t Daily Mail)
Some parts of the world are still conservative when it comes to promoting equality for the LGBTQ community. Hence, Liverpool, alongside clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, chose not to support the campaign on certain social media accounts of the club.

The clubs believe that such a move would invite more hate, negative response, and prejudice instead of helping the cause.
This definitely does not mean that our club is taking a backfoot when it comes to supporting this noble cause. It only means that they have a bigger picture in mind and want to reduce the negative response that such posts may invite on specific social media accounts.
