It is fair to say that Liverpool are coming back on the track. They started their season on a high note by defeating the London giants Arsenal. The side then went on to humiliate the reigning Premier League Champions Leicester City, and most recently, Klopp’s men conquered the Stamford Bridge yet again.
The Reds completely dominated the first half and held on to a 2-1 lead in the end. The first goal came from an unexpected source; Dejan Lovren. The confidence never looked low after the goal and the side then went on to score a breather as Jordan Henderson did the unthinkable by scoring a brilliant long ranger. The second half though looked a little cagey, from Liverpool’s point of view, but they managed to clinch the points.
Looking at their form, it seems like a top four finish is not a distant dream anymore. The German gaffer, Jurgen Klopp, is working very hard to get the best out of the players and the lads themselves are loving every minute of it.
The next stop for the side is the EFL cup tie and for this, the players will be travelling to iPro Stadium to face Nigel Pearson’s men, Derby County. Jurgen Klopp recently stated that he don’t see this fixture as an easy one and will be lining up a strong side against the opponents, so here is how he could line-up his team:
Goalkeeper: Loris Karius-
The Summer arrival from Germany hasn’t played a minute in the Premier League or any competitive game due to injury, but he is set to mark his return in the fixture tonight. Karius featured in pre-season when Simon Mignolet was on a break following Euro 2016.
Defence: Clyne; Matip; Klavan; Moreno-
The right flank will surely be occupied by the Englishman Nathaniel Clyne. The former Southampton man was up against Hazard and he barely put a foot wrong and never really allowed the Belgian dribbler to make a threatening run.
The centre-back pairing might see a change. The arrival from Bundesliga, Joel Matip, is set to retain his place after putting a positive performance against Chelsea, while, on the other hand, we might see the Estonian skipper Ragnar Klavan alongside him.
The Spanish professional Alberto Moreno, who has now completely lost his place in the starting lineup, might play a role in the fixture as the manager might look to offer a much-needed rest to James Milner.
Midfield Trio: Can; Grujic; Henderson-
Derby have a number of veterans like Darren Bent, Chris Baird and Andreas Weimann who are well capable of giving Liverpool a run for their money and especially in the counters, they can cause some serious problems. In that case, the manager might use Emre Can to guard the back line.
The young Serbian Marko Grujic might make his first competitive start as well. The midfielder has only played 12 minutes in the Premier League, but this might be the best platform for him. He will be playing a more centrally and hence, will be playing a decisive role.
With that being said, Jordan Henderson might shift to a more attacking position. The former Sunderland midfielder, who recently scored a screamer against Chelsea, is looking high in confidence and he will look to build on it.
Attacking Trio: Mane; Firmino; Coutinho-
The manager, as stated, might look to step on to the field with full throttle. Sadio Mane will be taking his usual spot to haunt Derby’s defence, while the Brazilian attacking winger, Philippe Coutinho, will continue his flashy runs from the opposite flanks.
Guardian has reported that Roberto Firmino has been declared fit for the fixture and hence, he might mark his return to the lineup.
Klopp said: “Roberto is in training. The medical department told me he could have played against Chelsea but I heard the word risk too often so I decided no.
“I was very happy that it worked out OK. They told me if I gave him three days he would be perfect so today is the fourth day.”
