Transfer News: Neco Williams eyed by Burnley and Norwich for a potential loan move from Liverpool
According to a report by TeamTalk (h/t Mirror), Liverpool are considering letting Neco Williams leave on a loan transfer in the summer, with two Premier League clubs already interested.
Newcomers Norwich City and Sean Dyche’s Burnley are the two clubs interested in him. Apart from the PL duo, Welsh teams Cardiff City and Swansea are also cited in the report as potential suitors.
Williams, 20, has found game-time tough to come by at Liverpool. Trent Alexander-Arnold is the undisputed first-choice right-back and it seems that he will hold that position down for quite some time.
Coming through Liverpool’s youth academy, Williams has made a handful of starts for the senior side. Any loan move to a Premier League club would mean heaps of important experience for the youngster.
Neco on his way out?
But it could mean trouble for Liverpool, who are short of natural right-backs. Both Ibrahima Koante and Joe Gomez can be played down that side, but they are largely centre-backs.
Liverpool also let go of Ki-Jana Hoever last year to Wolverhampton Wanderers. With Jurgen Klopp’s men competing on four fronts next season, Williams could also get playing time at Liverpool itself.
But it remains to be seen what decision the club comes to regarding Williams. He is currently with the Welsh national team travelling to the 2020 UEFA European Championship.
So, it seems that anything solid about his future could come after the Welsh team’s participation in the tournament. The Reds should ensure that they have ample backup in every position, especially in defence.
