Transfer News: Liverpool tipped to complete Patson Daka signing from RB Salzburg

According to a report by Zambian Observer (h/t Liverpool Echo), Patson Daka will be announced as a Liverpool player in the summer transfer window.

The RB Salzburg striker has made immense waves in Europe this season. He netted 34 times and assisted 12 goals in all competitions as Salzburg comfortably managed to win the Austrian league title.

The Reds have already completed the signing of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig. Signing Daka this week, as mentioned in the report, would really be a statement of intent from the Reds.

Patson Daka of RB Salzburg is a transfer target for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp already has a tried and tested centre-forward in Roberto Firmino. However, the Brazilian did not seem to have his shooting boots on this season and could do with some competition.

Divock Origi, who has served as a backup for Firmino in the past couple of seasons, looks set to leave the club. The 26-year-old has never looked like he would be next in line to lead Liverpool’s attack.

And signing a 22-year-old in Daka would be a great move in the short, as well as long term for the Reds. Perhaps the club would also be wary of the need to move in quick for the Zambian.

Roberto Firmino could use some competition in Liverpool.

Erling Haaland, who was eventually replaced in the Salzburg frontline by Daka, is now valued at €200million by his current club, Borussia Dortmund. If Daka takes off in a similar way at any other club apart from Liverpool, the club could end up regretting their decision.

But it remains to be seen if Liverpool formalize their interest in Daka soon. It is suggested that Daka could cost as little as £17million, and if that’s the case, there is no reason why the Reds should not look for a potential deal.
