Leicester step up pursuit of Liverpool target Patson Daka
According to The Telegraph (h/t Leicestershire Live), Leicester City are ready to step up their pursuit of RB Salzburg striker Patson Daka, who is a target for Liverpool.
Daka has been with RB Salzburg since 2017, when he signed from Kafue Celtic in his homeland, Zambia. The 22-year-old had a slow start to life in Austria but burst onto the scenes during the 2019/20 season, especially following the exit of Erling Haaland.
The 2020/21 campaign was Daka’s best as he plundered as many as 34 goals in all competitions, leading to interest from a host of clubs, including Liverpool. Apart from the Reds, Chelsea have also shown a keenness to sign the Zambian, along with Leicester City. (h/t Leicestershire Live)
And now, the Foxes are set to ‘step up’ their pursuit of the Zambian international, by launching an early bid in order to beat off the competitors. The 22-year-old Daka is expected to cost somewhere around the £30m mark. (h/t Leicestershire Live)
If true, this is set to come as a blow for Liverpool and their hopes to sign Daka. The Reds are in need of a new centre-forward this summer after having seen Roberto Firmino’s goal tally dry up over the past year or so. In addition, Divock Origi has misfired this past season and could be on his way out as well.

So, bringing in someone like Daka would have been a fine move on the club’s part. However, any such transfer looks difficult now with Leicester now taking a lead to sign him.
