Transfer News: Liverpool striker Liam Millar set for FC Basel switch
According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool striker Liam Millar is all set to join FC Basel in the summer transfer window after a seven-figure fee was agreed.
That was the second offer made by the Swiss giants after their first bid was rejected by Michael Edwards. Millar currently has two years left on his Anfield contract.
The 21-year-old spent this season out on loan at Charlton Athletic, where he made 27 appearances for the League One outfit. The Reds have rejected permanent offers for Millar in the past.
And the report cites interest from Championship sides for Millar but it seems that the Liverpool youngster is heading to Basel where he can play in the UEFA Conference League.
Liam Millar to FC Basel?
It was evident that he had no immediate future at the club despite Roberto Firmino lacking any real competition up front. Millar has been sent out on loan multiple times and has just one senior appearance for the club.
The Canadian youngster was signed by Liverpool from Fulham in 2016 but things haven’t worked out for him. Hopefully, he finds his feet in Switzerland.
Any fee obtained from Millar’s sale can be put towards potential incomings. He is also not the only Liverpool attacker on the chopping block.
Liverpool Echo (as covered by The Kop Times) state that Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson and Divock Origi can leave the club in the summer as well. In light of this, Jurgen Klopp should look for a few incomings.
