Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne opened up about which young players at the club could turn out to be stars. The England international was speaking with Goal and he highlighted that Sheyi Ojo, Marko Grujic and Trent Alexander-Arnold are players with a bright future.

The Merseyside club is known for producing great talent and everyone who is associated with the club will remember Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. Other stars to have come out of the system include Michael Owen and more recently Raheem Sterling.

The Reds have always had a local lad in the team but those days are almost gone it seems. The need for local blood can never be undermined and having a Liverpudlian in the team helps create a better connect with the supporters.

Clyne, who joined Liverpool in a £12.5m from Southampton, stated that the three mentioned stars are the ones that have impressed him the most.

“There’s a lot of good, young players out there, I see some of their games and they are doing really well.

“I’d say, yeah, Sheyi Ojo is really good. Trent Alexander-Arnold is another one who impresses. Marko Grujic is good as well. He is very confident on the ball, he has got a good shot as well. I am enjoying training and working with him.”

“I am growing up as a player, really, I can definitely give advice to these youngsters who are coming through to the first team or who are trying to get into the first team if they need any help and I could look out for them and help them.

“I remember when I was at [Crystal] Palace, Jose Fonte helped me out and he picked me out after a reserve game and he said: ‘Yeah, you are good and confident and that you are doing really well.’ I always remember that, yeah. He is a nice guy.”

Who are the starlets?

Out of the three mentioned, a couple of players are already on the fringes of the first team. While Marko Grujic has played the two EFL ties this season, Sheyi Ojo did play in a few games as a substitute.

Ojo is currently on the treatment table but the young winger is one of the brightest prospects to have come out of the academy in recent years. Many are also labeling him to be better than Raheem Sterling and there are a lot of expectations from the 19-year-old Englishman.

Grujic was bought by the club in the last transfer window but he only joined the club this summer as he left Red Star Belgrade. The Serbian is another midfielder in the ranks of the Liverpool team, though he is a box-to-box midfielder, many have claimed him as the next Nemanja Matic.

The third player on the list of Clyne is Trent Alexander-Arnold and the youngster sees the Liverpool right-back as the perfect player to look up to. Speaking to ThisIsAnfield, the youngster was all praise for Clyne as well.

“I am trying to watch him and learn how good he is.

“I think he is probably the best right-back in the league for me, defensively and going forward. He is so consistent in everything he does.

“I want to play the way I play but if I can learn things from him then I’ll try do that every day.”

Trent was also part of the match day squad that defeated Arsenal on the opening day of the season.

A bright future for the youngsters at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp certainly has a number of youngsters that are bursting to break into the first team. Ovie Ejaria was another youngster that was given his debut against Derby County in the EFL Cup and the German must be keeping an eye out for other gems in the team.

Klopp has always looked to promote the youth in a club and with Liverpool blessed with talent, it should be a great time for most players in the youth academy at the Merseyside club.
