Transfer News: Liverpool close to completing Renato Sanches transfer from Lille

According to journalist Pedro Almeida (h/t Express), Liverpool are on the verge of completing a transfer move for Renato Sanches – in a deal which can cost as little as £30m.

Sanches is no stranger to playing at a top European club. He broke onto the scene as a teenager at SL Benfica, earning himself a big move to Bayern Munich.

Despite an underwhelming few years in Germany and Wales with Bayern and Swansea City respectively, he has found form again at Lille. Sanches won the Ligue 1 title under Christophe Galtier and has impressed for Portugal too.

The 23-year-old was one of their best players in a short UEFA Euros campaign which saw Portugal eliminated by Belgium in the last-16. And it seems like a deal to get Sances at Anfield is ‘almost done’.

“Renato Sanches to Liverpool is almost done. The Portuguese midfielder will sign for the English club for around €35million.”

Sanches to LFC?

The Reds are one man short in midfield going into the next season courtesy of Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure to PSG. And Sanches is a player more than capable of being the Dutchman’s successor at Liverpool.

Premier League side Arsenal are also keen on signing in Sanches, as per the report. But it looks like if Sanches returns to English football, it could be with Liverpool.

This is a signing not many fans would mind. At the age of 23, Sanches already has enough experience at the top level and a lot of years ahead of him to develop and improve at Anfield.

The Reds do possess a decent line-up in the centre of the park but Sanches’ addition would offer fans, and perhaps even Jurgen Klopp, a greater sense of relief than a team without any new midfielder.
