Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe wants to leave PSG this summer
According to French outlet RMC (h/t Liverpool Echo via Anfield Watch), French superstar and Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe has informed PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino that he wants to leave the club this summer.
One of the most sought-after forwards in the game currently, Mbappe has been scaling great heights year after year since breaking out at AS Monaco in 2016/17. The 22-year-old made the switch to PSG in 2017, initially on loan before making the transfer permanent in 2018 and has become a world-class goalscorer despite his young age.
Mbappe plundered as many as 42 goals and set up 11 more for his teammates in 47 games during the 2020/21 campaign. However, his contract with PSG runs out in a little less than a year sparking all sorts of speculations over his future.
Liverpool have been one of the clubs that have been steadily linked with a move for Mbappe, along with La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid. And, it now seems like the Reds may have been handed a boost as the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has informed PSG manager Pochettino of his desire to not extend his contract and leave this summer. Goes without saying, Mbappe, should he sign for Liverpool, would elevate the team to a whole new level. While Roberto Firmino’s value to Jurgen Klopp’s team is undeniable, the Brazilian was once again goal-shy in the last season. Plus with Sadio Mane also enduring a rough year, it makes sense for the Reds to bolster their attack this summer.

Despite his contract situation, Mbappe is likely to command a massive transfer fee. And, given Real Madrid’s long-standing interest in the Frenchman, it will be anything but easy for Liverpool to snap him up. Furthermore, there is also the question of whether the club is willing to splash a huge fee and break the wage structure in place to bring the 22-year-old to the club as well.
