Liverpool’s future does look incredibly bright as Jurgen Klopp is handing youngsters long-term contracts. While Kevin Stewart was handed a deal till 2021 recently, there are a couple of other starlets who could be provided with bumper deals as well, according to the reports from Daily Mail.
Klopp had stated earlier that he would always look within the academy for players to fill in the gaps before going to the transfer market. And it seems the former Borussia Dortmund manager is willing to keep his word.
Ben Woodburn and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the two players that the Daily Mail believes will get new contracts. While Woodburn impressed during the pre-season for the Reds, the attacker is looking for his first professional contract. The 17-year-old does have a mean streak about him when it comes to scoring goals and many have stated that he could be the next Robbie Fowler for the Premier League side.
Alexander-Arnold is part of the U23 side at Liverpool and the versatile player can be put either in central midfield or as a right-back. The 18-year-old has impressed Liverpool boss Klopp a lot with his hard-work and many expect him to be part of the side that plays in the EFL Cup this season.
In fact, the youngster was also part of the Liverpool bench in the game against Arsenal but didn’t really get to play as the Reds came out with an impressive win at the Emirates.
Not the only bright spots in the Liverpool academy
The pair is just a couple of bright stars to have come out from the Liverpool system recently. Sheyi Ojo was another player that was set to be in the first team plans but injury got to him and now he is recuperating.
Another highly rated player who should be making an appearance for the first team soon is Ovie Ejaria. The 18-year-old is another player who is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Reds but great things are expected of him as well.
The reshuffle in the Premier League side has seen a lot of young talent being shipped away. While Andre Wisdom and Jon Flanagan have left the side on loan, Jordon Ibe and Brad Smith were sold by Klopp to provide chances to the other players.
Liverpool finally have a manager and a group of players that seem to be one. Klopp’s ideas have permeated into the side and the Reds are playing some of the best football in years. They sit close to the top of the Premier League table and if they can keep this going they can end up at least making it into the Champions League.
Klopp has a conveyor belt of great young players coming out and hopefully the Reds will find the next Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and even Steven Gerrard in the coming years.
