Brazil and Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos is all set to take part in a charity match next year between the Liverpool Legends and Real Madrid Legends. The former left-back will be expecting to put on a jersey and star in the match between the two sides on 25 March for the Liverpool FC Foundation.
“It will be fantastic to come here, it’s going to be a real honour,” Carlos was reported to have said according to the Liverpool Echo.
“This is an historic venue. What sticks in my mind from being here previously is the vibrant atmosphere in the stadium. We’re looking forward to it.”
The last time these two sides met was at the Santiago Bernabeu which was won by the Spanish side 4-2 in June 2015.
There were a number of other Real Madrid legends who spoke out about the game such as Emilio Butragueno.
“We are delighted to be here,” Butragueno said.
“I came here twice as a fan and it’s a venue full of history and memories where many dreams have come dream.
“The game at the Bernabeu in 2015 was a huge success and we agreed to play a second match here at Anfield. We will do our best to help you make it a success.”
The striker was also hopeful of a great performance by the side and a match that everyone would enjoy.
“We will try to gather together the best possible team and make it a marvellous spectacle for everyone to enjoy. We are excited about this opportunity.
“We want to fill the stadium to help the Foundation and give back to society.”

Playing for both sides in the charity match
Butragueno also stated that former Red Steve McManaman will be starring for both sides and even Luis Figo would be participating in the match for Real.
“I think it will be the same for Fernando Morientes too,” he added. “We will have to see about Michael Owen!”
Ricardo Gallego, a former defender for Real also stated that he would be playing and is close to former manager Rafael Benitez.
“I studied at college with Rafa,” he said.
“The doors were always open for me at Anfield. I was involved in a presentation at the Academy with that special connection.
“I am looking forward to getting the chance to play here.”
Fowler and Rush to star for the Reds
The English side will be led by legendary striker Robbie Fowler with another legend Ian Rush acting as player-manager. Fowler, who also played for Leeds and Manchester City added:
“We went over last year and massively enjoyed it. We had a great few days in Madrid.
“The chance to put on the shirt again is fantastic. I’m not sure you’ll be getting the full press that Jurgen Klopp demands but we can’t wait to get going.”
Ian Rush also had a few words to say about the game where the proceeds would go to the Liverpool FC Foundation, the official charity of the club.
“It’s all about the Foundation and the work it does in the city.
“A lot of youngsters won’t have seen these Real Madrid Legends before. Google them and see how good they really were.
“We will be looking for revenge. We felt we were robbed in Madrid.”
The other players in the list who are going to turn up for the Reds are: Gary McAllister, Jamie Carragher, Salif Diao, Jerzy Dudek, Luis Garcia, Stephane Henchoz, Jason McAteer, Patrik Berger, Vladimir Smicer, David Thompson, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, Sander Westerweld, John Aldridge, John Arne Riise, Phil Babb, Didi Hamann and Daniel Agger.
