Liverpool youngster Cameron Brannagan hasn’t played a number of games this season thanks to the form of Emre Can, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson and the midfielder is set to move away from the club on loan – as per the reports from Liverpool Echo.

The 20-year-old had broken into the side last season as he performed in the League Cup (EFL Cup this season) and the FA Cup for Jurgen Klopp. But the player hasn’t made a Premier League appearance this season and is being targeted by Bolton Wanderers in the January transfer window.

There are a number of outlets that believes the Trotters are to sign the Englishman up and it might be a good move as he looks to keep playing first team football.

The youngster hasn’t even made an appearance in the EFL Cup this season but had made nine appearances for the Merseyside club last season. Jurgen Klopp also believes that the midfielder has a lot of talent and had earlier stated:

“For his age he brings everything you need for a midfield player he wants to play football, he’s strong, he’s clear, he’s cool.”

Playing time important for the growth of Brannagan

It was expected that the 20-year-old would get a lot of playing time this season, after impressing in the last season but that has not taken place till now. Klopp has given more playing time to Kevin Stewart and Marko Grujic in the cup competitions.

The Reds are still in the EFL Cup and are set to feature in the semi-finals, while they are yet to start their FA Cup campaign. The Reds don’t have any European football this season, unlike the last time, and certainly, that has played a part in the lack of game time for the Englishman.

Brannagan is at an important stage in his career, he needs to play regularly for a team. Bolton are third and have a real chance of making it back to the Championship come the end of the season.

The Englishman would provide quality to the Bolton side, which has struggled for a number of years, and certainly, a loan deal would be great for him and Liverpool. It might have been a better move had he signed for a Championship side since the quality of football is better but the greater the number of games he gets under his belt, the better it would be for his career.

The 20-year-old does have to impress Klopp if he wants to have a long career at Liverpool. The Reds do have a number of players in the midfield position but Brannagan does have the ability to break through the side, as long as he plays regular football.
