Jurgen Klopp gives his thoughts on the contract situation surrounding sporting director Michael Edwards
According to Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp has said that he is not worried about the contract situation of sporting director Michael Edwards. He further added that the situation will be solved in due time and is not concerning at the moment.
Edwards has played a key role in Liverpool’s success under the German manager. He was also credited for several transfer deals that helped the Reds attain the success they are enjoying right now.
The former Portsmouth man is in his last year as it is set to expire in the summer of 2022. The sporting director’s contribution cannot be overlooked as he played a part in Liverpool’s rise to the top.

The situation came to light at the end of August when it was made public that his contract would expire. The former Tottenham Hotspur analyst was appointed as the club’s first sporting director back in November 2016.
Following his appointment, the Merseyside club have been on an upward trajectory challenging for a top 4 place to genuine title contenders in the Premier League and Champions League.
The Reds boss also mentioned that if it was up to him, he would not be concerned with something that is going to happen next year. Speaking on the issue, he said:
“If it was my point of view, if it expires next year, which I didn’t know exactly, I will think about that next year and not now.”

It is understood that Liverpool are hopeful about keeping Edwards at the club for the years to come. However, he could also walk away as his ten-year tenure at the club would be coming to an end.
The role of a sporting director is of utmost importance and the English club would be hoping for a positive outcome from this saga. If Edwards does leave, the recruitment drive for a new person in that role should be given due value.
