Liverpool star Joe Gomez seeking more playtime at Liverpool
Liverpool star Joe Gomez has urged Jurgen Klopp to play him more often following a rather underwhelming start to the season on a personal level.
According to 90 min (h/t LiverpoolEcho), Gomez complained to Klopp about the lack of playing time he has been afforded at the time this season. The Reds have often started Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matop while Ibrahima Konate came on and impressed against Manchester United.
The English defender suffered a tendon injury in his left knee last year that forced him to be sidelined for a significant amount of time. He missed most of the matches from last season and only started in six games all campaign.
This lack of playing time has cost him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England team. He would want to avoid such a situation as the 2022 World Cup looms large. He only featured in two Premier League games as a substitute and has only played 12 minutes so far.
The 24 years old defender would naturally want to have more game times because the results of not playing for Liverpool can also affect his profile in the eyes of the England manager.
In the Champions League, he has featured three times. But only one among them came as a starter The other time he played a whole 90 min was when the Reds faced Norwich City in the Carabao Cup third round.

This does not mean Gomezx is seeking greener pastures away from Anfield. He remains committed to Klopp and isn’t yet considering options out of the Merseyside team. But he has made his intentions clear to the manager and would want to get a resolution very soon.
He could wait for this season’s end and evaluate the options available to him. Gomez is certainly a skilled player and the fact that he isn’t able to get a game speaks of the quality in the club’s ranks.
With the Carabao Cup clash against Preston North End to come, Gomez could get his opportunity sooner rather than later.
