Jorge Mendes ‘pushing’ Renato Sanches to leave Lille amidst Liverpool interest
According to Calciomercato (h/t Mirror), super-agent Jorge Mendes is pushing his client Renato Sanches to leave LOSC Lille amidst interest from Liverpool.
The Portuguese international has rebuilt his reputation as one of the top young midfielders in Europe with his stint in the French top flight. He has also earned himself a regular spot in the Portuguese national side after having rediscovered his mojo.
With the disappointing spells at Bayern Munich and Swansea City (on loan), now behind him, Sanches is a player reborn. He played a key role in Lille’s Ligue 1 win last season and has considerably enhanced his reputation as a result.
Now that he is back to his best, Sanchez could be looking at a move to one of Europe’s big boys. It is believed that the agent of Sanches, Jorge Mendes, is ‘pushing’ him towards an exit from Lille.
Apart from Liverpool, the likes of Arsenal and AC Milan are all interested in securing the 24-year-old’s services. He would certainly add much to any of the three teams in the fray.
Looking at the age of the leading Liverpool midfielders, a change of the guard should happen sooner rather than later. Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago Alcantara are all in their thirties and will need to be phased out eventually.
With Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain proving injury-prone, Liverpool can do with an option or more in midfield. Sanches certainly fits the bill and would be a worthwhile addition to Jurgen Klopp’s roster.
