Liverpool need to fork out £6million for Borussia Mönchengladbach star Denis Zakaria
According to Sport Bild (h/t Liverpool Echo), Borussia Mönchengladbach are willing to sell Liverpool target, Denis Zakaria, for a fee in the £6million region.
The Swiss international has been a consistent performer for the Bundesliga side this season. He made 15 appearances this season and has been one of their standout players. Despite his key role in the squad, Zakaria’s future remains up in the air.
The midfielder is currently serving the final year of his contract term. In such a case, the 25-year-old would become a free agent at the end of the current season. Mönchengladbach knows this and wants to sell him in the January transfer window to prevent the possibility of losing for free later on.
Liverpool have been linked with the former Young Boys midfielder in recent times. The Bundesliga team’s current transfer stance could prove advantageous for the Reds. It is believed that Mönchengladbach has put a transfer tag of £6million for their midfielder.
Liverpool had a reliable and consistent performer in Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutch midfielder gave some game-deciding performances and helped Jurgen Klopp’s team get over the line many times. However, the 31-year-old decided to break the long term partnership in the summer and joined Paris Saint Germain.
It was anticipated that Jurgen Klopp would make a midfield purchase to cover up for his losses. However, the only major signing that the Merseyside team’s board did was Ibrahima Konaté. Therefore, the gap remained.
Jurgen Klopp’s team stuffed a mini midfield crisis earlier this season. Thiago Alcântara, James Milner, Curtis Jones and Naby Keita were sidelined earlier this season due to injuries. The results were evident as the Reds lost some crucial points at that time.

Even though most of the players are back, there is still a void for the backup position for Fabinho. The Brazilian midfielder also has been consistent. But his absence would hurt Liverpool’s performance. Zakaria could be an excellent alternative for that position.
