Liverpool defender Maguire has signed a deal to move to Fleetwood Town on a permanent deal. The 20-year-old defender was one of the highest rated players in the Liverpool setup but his move is being seen as an option to gather more minutes under his belt.

The former academy product had spent 13 years at Liverpool but had only made one senior appearance for the Merseyside club. This came last year in the FA Cup against Exeter as the Reds drew with the lower league side 2-2.

Maguire was an U23 captain for the Reds and expects to do well for his new club. The youngster was expected to sign a loan deal with the club but he decided to sign a permanent deal with Fleetwood.

The 20-year-old was delighted with the move and shared his views:

“I’ve not been at another club since Liverpool for 13 years but I’ve seen the routine here and the ambition of the club, and I’m just delighted to get involved,” he said on signing with Fleetwood.

“How the ambition of the club is and the manager that’s involved that made me want to obviously come here and get involved. They want to go somewhere; I think there’s a lot of clubs that obviously aren’t in the same position that were interested. But I’d say this club definitely knows where they want to be and I’m excited and I want to hopefully help them get promotion this season.”

The youngster also shared updates on Twitter regarding his move to town.

There have been a fair number of young players being let out by Jurgen Klopp this season as some of them have stuck to Premier League sides and a few have moved to lower league teams. Tiago Ilori, another highly rated defender, was also sold to lower league side Reading in the winter window.

Klopp seems to be putting his mark on the youth setup and has been linked with moves for rising stars like Ben Brereton of Nottingham Forest. Most of the young players sold have a buy-back clause or so they should have and Maguire should be no different.

The youngster didn’t really make a big name for himself when playing at Liverpool but hopefully, he will have a better fist of things once he starts regularly playing for Fleetwood Town. It could even lead him back to Liverpool should things go well for him.
