Transfer News: Liverpool set to face competition in pursuit of Ajax’s Ryan Gravenberch

According to Kicker via Fussball News (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are set to face competition from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of talented Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

The Ajax Amsterdam midfield prodigy has been performing on an excellent level for the Eredivisie based club for a few seasons now. Yet another product of Ajax’s famed youth academy, Gravenberch was promoted to the first team set up in 2019.

With eight goal contributions in 36 appearances this season, the talented midfielder is yet again showing his worth in Erik Ten Hag’s side.

The Dutch international’s contract expires in 2023 and he is yet to pen down a new deal with Ajax. It is widely expected that the teenager could be on the move come the summer, and the Reds are said to be very keen on securing his services.

However, Liverpool are not alone with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur also said to be interested in the Dutch prodigy. The former two giants are said to be ahead of the Reds at the moment.

Gravenberch – the perfect midfielder?

Georginio Wijnaldum left the club the past summer to join PSG and Liverpool are yet to secure a like for like replacement. Signing his dutch counterpart in Gravenberch might just be the solution for the Reds.

Gravenberch is comfortable playing a box-to-box role in midfield while can also deputise as the holding midfielder when needed. He is adept defensively, has a neat range of passing and can also chip in with goals and assists from time to time.

The talented midfielder would fit into Klopp’s system perfectly and the German manager would love to have him. At 19, playing under such a reputed manager will also help Gravenberch improve his game and tune the finer aspects.

More Liverpool News

If the midfielder chooses to come to Anfield, he will have to adapt to the rigours of playing in the Premier League but it is widely expected that he will, considering his enormous potential.

However, the Reds may have a tough time convincing Gravenberch to come to Anfield, especially with European giants like Bayern and Real Madrid also in the fray.
