Gary Lineker praises the performance of Liverpool star Luis Diaz against Benfica
After Liverpool’s 3-1 win against Benfica, Gary Lineker (via Twitter) has praised Luis Diaz for his match-winning performance against the Portuguese club, hailing him as a great signing for the Reds.
The Colombian’s strike, along with goals from Ibrahima Konate and Sadio Mane helped Liverpool overcome Benfica in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League in Portugal. The two-goal cushion puts the Reds in a strong position to make it to the semifinals.
Returning to the country where he played his football for a long time until recently, Diaz absolutely showed no nerves while facing former rivals Benfica and the late goal was a just reward for his night’s performance.
Commenting about the Columbian winger’s performance against the Portuguese club, Gary Lineker tweeted that Diaz was an exceptional signing by the Reds.
A blessing in disguise?
Even in their wildest dreams, Liverpool would not have anticipated the impact that Luis Diaz has had on the team since joining the club. If anything, there have been few players who have come in and settled into Jurgen Klopp’s system off the bat like the 25-year-old.
The Colombian has perfectly integrated into Klopp’s system and although it’ll be some time before the winger becomes a permanent starter, his influence, whenever he is on the pitch, is undeniable.
Having already won the Carabao Cup, Liverpool are still going strong in the other three competitions and Diaz’s signing has acted as a catalyst in this process. Should the Reds go on to secure the quadruple, the South American will have a huge role to play.

If the Reds are indeed to achieve the unthinkable, then a crucial contribution from the former Porto man will be essential. Liverpool have a title-defining two weeks ahead of them which could make or break their season and Diaz must be at his absolute best to help us get out of it.
The winter signing of Diaz could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the Reds. It remains to be seen as to how he develops.
