Transfer News: Liverpool ready to match the release clause of Barcelona sensation Gavi
According to Nacional (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are willing to match the release clause of talented Barcelona midfielder Gavi.
Pablo Gavira, popularly known as Gavi has been a stand-out performer for the Blaugrana this season. The 17-year-old Spanish midfielder broke into the first team at the Camp Nou at the back of an impressive preseason and has quickly established himself as an important player for Xavi Hernandez.
The Barcelona teenager has already made his debut for the Spanish national team, becoming the youngest player to represent Spain in the process.
The Spanish starlet’s contract expires in 2023, and the Garnets and Blue are keen on tying him down to a new long-term deal. The Reds want to take advantage of this situation and trigger the Spaniard’s release clause and bring him to Anfield.
Liverpool are apparently willing to pay Gavi’s £42m release clause to bring the Spanish playmaker to Anfield. Whilst expensive, he could develop into a reliable player for the Reds for years to come.
A sensational talent?
At 17-years-old, not many players in the world can boast of having played for the Catalan giants and the La Roja and also excelling in almost every game he plays in. Gavi is truly a special talent from the fabled La Masia academy that does not come around very often.
Like former Barcelona and current La Roja coach Luis Enrique alluded to, playing in the way Gavi plays at 17 is ‘not normal’ and his potential is truly frightening. He could very well go on to become one of the finest players in the game.
Signing a player of Gavi’s quality will be a great addition to increase the quality of the Reds midfield, which is still their weakest suit in comparison to attack and defence. Liverpool already have two amazing midfield talents in Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott, although the latter’s future may be as a right-winger rather than a midfielder.
Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara are both good players but are injury-prone. Jordan Henderson is not getting any younger. Adding another midfielder to ranks, that too someone of the Spaniard’s pedigree will be a welcome move.

With Gavi, Liverpool could be getting a player for the future and the present. He is a player who could perfectly fit into Klopp’s all-action system. However, the Reds will not have it easy, especially with the player having such a prominent role at Barcelona.
Gavi may choose to stay at Camp Nou but if he were to leave, the Reds will not be the only club interested in securing his signature.
