Transfer News: Liverpool battle several clubs for Valencia star Carlos Soler

According to Spanish outlet Sport via Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in signing Valencia star, Carlos Soler, who is also attracting interest from Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus.

Soler, 25, is a one-club man who now boasts 6 senior caps for Spain. Having come through the academy of Los Che, he has become an integral part of their senior team and has been on top form this season as well.

His 12 goals and 5 assists in all competitions this season have seen Valencia maintain a respectable 10th spot in the La Liga table so far, while also making the final of the Copa del Rey.

He is also a leader in the middle of the park, as evidenced by his stepping up to take his team’s first penalty in the Copa del Rey final shootout against Real Betis. He scored, just like the 5 other spot-kick takers after him.

But Yunus Musah’s miss was costly enough to hand Valencia a loss after the game finished 1-1 in regulation time. According to WhoScored.com, Soler is adept at taking set-pieces, has a neat finish on him, and has an eye for a pass.

Do LFC require Soler’s energy?

At 25, he is arguably in the prime years of his career and Liverpool can use a midfielder of his age profile and ability in their midfield. Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson, while brilliant, are not getting any younger.

James Milner has already been reduced to cameos while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has found it hard to garner starts this season. Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, both of whom have played down the wings early on in their career, are still young and could use a bit of time before being burdened with regular starts in the middle of the park- an area central to Jurgen Klopp’s philosophy at Liverpool.

Soler can slot in well into our midfield and given Klopp’s usage of his senior midfield options this season, he could become an important part of this team. Should he be the priority for us this summer? That is something Liverpool fans may have divided opinions on.

A centre-forward that can compete with the ageing Roberto Firmino for starts and a right-back to deputise for Trent Alexander-Arnold are two options that the club would be wise to consider taking this summer.
