Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ready to offer Mario Gotze a way to resurrect his career. Once seen as the best German talent by a significant margin, Gotze failed to settle at Bayern Munich and returned to Borussia Dortmund for around £22 million in the summer of 2016.
However, he has been unable to make much of an impact at Dortmund, as he has largely been on the sidelines due to injuries. There has been speculation that he has been diagnosed with a muscular dystrophy, which causes muscles to weaken much earlier. Gotze publicly admitted that he has been suffering from metabolic disturbances.
The 24-year-old enjoyed the best spell in his career when he was working with Klopp at Dormund. Even though the German tried to persuade Gotze to remain at Dortmund back in 2013, he decided to join Bayern Munich in a £31.5 million deal. After managing to surpass expectations in his first two campaigns at Bayern Munich, his form plummeted towards his final season and he returned to Dortmund.
Now, his career appears to be hanging in the balance as a result of questions about his fitness and the ability to play in the long-term. Klopp is reportedly ready to offer the player a way back into the game by bringing him to Liverpool.
A change of scenario will certainly benefit Gotze, while being reunited with a manager who has a lot of belief in him will also help. Klopp is also on the lookout for exciting talent to add to the Liverpool squad. The club are widely expected to sell Daniel Sturridge in the upcoming transfer window. This would leave them with a need to bring in a new centre forward or an attacking player in the summer. Though Gotze would be a major gamble, it could be a gamble that could pay off in leaps and bounds. The talent possessed by the 24-year-old is well documented. If Liverpool can manage to get the best out of him, he would become a valuable addition to the club.
One of the hindrances towards Liverpool being able to attract the best names in the business is the lack of regular Champions League football. However, this is will not worry the German, since the player is more worried about featuring in the first team on a regular basis.
Klopp has admitted that he has been in touch with Gotze over his recent condition. However, he is confident that the former Bayern Munich winger will be able to return to his best. The 24-year old was such an incredible talent even at a young age that he has already made 62 appearances for the national team and scored the winning goal in the finals of the FIFA World Cup 2014.
