Liverpool’s plans to create a new training complex at Kirkby seem to be getting underway. Earlier in the season it was reported that Jurgen Klopp and Alex Inglethorpe were working to create one location where both the academy and first team players could interact and train.
While that would certainly help the youngsters in the side learn and grow with the first team, a few images of what the complex will look like have been released.
The £50 million training base’s plans will go out to the public today and the residents and businesses near the area will have a chance to discuss the project with members who are heading the redevelopment of the training complex.
Liverpool’s manager has been keen on revamping the setup at the club and has wanted to integrate the first team with the academy, that will possibly come true during the 2019-20 season and will see the Reds leave their rather historic Melwood training ground and take up the new location at Kirkby.
The move should certainly help the academy and that would mean more chances for the young players to get some first team minutes. The likes of Ben Woodburn, Trent-Alexander Arnold and Sheyi Ojo are just a few names that have gotten a lot of minutes under Klopp this season and that should continue in the next season as well.
The German is a firm believer in the youth system of every club he manages and that is no different for Liverpool as well.
While the progress of the academy players will be great for the Reds in the long run, there will be questions about how the team has played this season and how this move to Kirkby will affect the squad.
The Reds have trained at Melwood for many years and moving to a new location is never easy. Also, the move will certainly hit the club when it comes to finances but FSG are known to be shrewd businessmen and they will find a way to bring in more sponsorship.
The Merseyside club could also look towards Champions League money should they make it to the top four this season. They haven’t had the best of 2017s so far but should they get their game back and play in the same form as they did at the start of the season, they will play in the biggest club competition in the world.
The future does look bright for the Reds and this move could pay rich dividends for years to come.
