Alexis Sanchez certainly is in the news but for the wrong reasons. The Chilean reportedly had a falling out with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger before the match against Liverpool and was dropped from the side before playing in the second half of the game.
The Gunners did lose the game and Sanchez couldn’t help the side make it past the Champions League two-legged affair against Bayern Munich as they were beaten at home 1-5. And now it seems that his time at the club could be coming to an end, especially regarding his current contract situation.
The Chilean only has 18 months left on his deal but there has been no progress on negotiations over a new contract and he seems destined to leave London. While Juventus are in the running to sign Sanchez up, Stan Collymore, a former Liverpool player, has suggested a few Premier League clubs to break the bank and sign him up.
While writing in his Daily Mirror column Collymore pleaded with the clubs to ensure Sanchez continues his career in England.
“I fully expect Alexis Sanchez to leave Arsenal in the summer.”
“We need in the Premier League as many world-class players as we can get our hands on,” Collymore wrote.
“So I am pleading for a Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool – any of the teams to finish in the top four with the money – to go and put in a bid for him, tell him you will put your arm around him and win trophies with him.
“I could see Conte, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho or Jurgen Klopp all saying that to him and making him their top man.”
While Sanchez might opt to move away from England, given that he has a good relationship with the fans, Liverpool would certainly be interested in signing the star player.
The club had sounded out the ex-Barcelona attacker as a replacement for Luis Suarez but Sanchez chose London over the Merseyside, claiming that the capital was a better place to stay in. The Reds could certainly change his mind should they break the bank to sign him, but it does seem unlikely given the relationship the clubs share.
Arsenal had tried to sign Suarez from Liverpool a few years ago for a laughable £40 million plus £1 and that was rejected by John Henry. Since then, the clubs haven’t really seen eye to eye and Wenger will know that letting one of his best players to a rival club does not work well.
He did sell Robin van Persie to Manchester United a few years ago and the Dutchman scored a glut of goals as he won his first Premier League title with the Red Devils. Although Wenger has made the same mistakes time and again when fielding his side out in the Champions League, this is one mistake we doubt he will repeat.
Sanchez could very well leave Arsenal in the summer but it does seem he will move outside England.
