Jurgen Klopp provides Liverpool injury update on Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk

According to The Mirror, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided a positive outlook on the injury setbacks faced by Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Both players were subbed off in the FA Cup final against Chelsea on Saturday. Their absence did not thankfully adversely impact us as we won our second trophy of the season.

Salah and Van Dijk are among Liverpool’s best players and have played huge roles in the rebuild under Klopp. With the UEFA Champions League final and a title charge still on, the Reds could do with their star men back available.

The Liverpool manager revealed that while the Reds duo will miss out on the upcoming Premier League game against Southampton, they could be ready to face Real Madrid in Paris.

“The next game is on Tuesday and that’s obviously pretty quick. No, I think they both will be fine, but not… maybe… (on Tuesday).”

The Reds have a shot at winning the league if they win their remaining two games and Manchester City drops points against Aston Villa. It is fair to say that there is still hope that the elusive quadruple could be achieved regardless of the fact that the Cityzens take on a team that has nothing left to play for but pride at the Etihad.

Thankfully for Liverpool, the arrival of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have given them enough strength in depth in attack. Unlike in the past, Klopp now can make use of strength in depth.

The same can be said of the defence. The arrival and development shown by Ibrahima Konate mean the Rds can compensate for van Dijk’s absence to an extent.

The UCL final against Real Madrid will be a repeat of the 2018 showdown in Kyiv. Madrid got the better of us that night and it is high time that we repaid them in kind. Los Blancos might not be the force they were on that night but unless Salah and Van Dijk return, we could still have our hands full.
