Liverpool re-appoint physio Christopher Rohrbeck to help Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Fabinho with injury troubles for UCL final

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Liverpool have brought back physio Christopher Rohrbeck in order to help the team prepare for the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Fabinho, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have struggled with injury in recent weeks. And albeit none of them have been seriously injured in a way that rules them out for the final in Paris, there is still a sense of anxiety surrounding the trio.

The Brazilian superstar pulled up short against Aston Villa and was subbed off in our 2-1 win at Villa Park, while Salah was brought off prematurely against Chelsea in the FA Cup final this Saturday. van Dijk, too, was subbed off, with Joel Matip coming on to play 30 minutes in extra time of the showpiece occasion at Wembley.

And as a way of ensuring the trio is in top shape for the UCL final against Carlo Ancelotti’s Madrid, the Reds have re-appointed a physio that left Anfield around two years ago. In a move driven by Klopp, German physio Christopher Rohrbeck is back at LFC and brings with him an intimate knowledge of the club.

Good move by Klopp

He was an influential part of Klopp’s backroom staff that helped the team reach back-to-back Champions League finals and win the Premier League in the 2019/20 season. He also worked closely with the Egyptian superstar and the 30-year-old Dutch colossus back in the day and is brought in to aid the current medical team at the club.

This is certainly a smart move by the team. Klopp’s eye for detail has to be commended, with the German manager paying attention to the small things he believes can give his team the edge on crucial occasions. No one can forget Thomas Gronnemark’s appointment as a throw-in coach, with Joe Gomez benefitting from it the most.

Klopp has already praised neuro11, a company that he claims helped LFC win two penalty shootouts against Chelsea this season by working on the player’s mental strengths and conditioning.

West Ham United’s draw against Manchester City means there is a very, very small chance that the Reds can still win the league. It remains to be seen if the aforementioned trio is risked, or if they are rested with the final in Paris in mind.
