Transfer News: Liverpool want Leeds United star Raphinha as Mohamed Salah backup

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are interested in signing Leeds United winger Raphinha as a backup for Mohamed Salah.

The Brazilian superstar is keen to leave the Yorkshire-based side after flirting with relegation this season. Barcelona are also linked with the 25-year-old attacker which makes the task of signing Raphinha a bit harder.

Salah’s contract is coming to an end at Anfield but he has pledged his short-term future to the Reds. He is set to become a free agent next summer if he doesn’t put pen to paper on a new deal.

It remains to be seen if Raphinha accepts the role of being anyone’s backup, even if it is Premier League’s Golden Boot and Playmaker Award-winning Mohamed Salah. The ex-Rennes star has exploded onto the scene since making the switch to Elland Road.

Raphinha to LFC?

He is one of PL’s most exciting wingers and given his status at Leeds, it would be hard to imagine him playing as a backup to Salah. That being said, there is every chance that he can replace the former AS Roma man if he does make the move to Anfield.

There is no real development with regards to Mo renewing his deal with Liverpool. If he does leave the club next summer, then it does open up a huge space down the right-hand side of our attack.

Salah was not really a world-renowned megastar when he left Roma for Merseyside. He returned to England when he was of a similar age to Raphinha.

And the Brazilian winger would have seen the progress that the Egyptian has made in that spot over the past five years. If he has any ambition to reach that level of stardom, Salah’s throne is there for the taking.
