Liverpool turned up for the game at the Bet365 Stadium but only in the second half as they ran out 2-1 winners against Stoke City. Jurgen Klopp had taken a major risk by fielding a rather inexperienced side with no Philippe Coutinho or Roberto Firmino in the starting XI.
Ben Woodburn and Trent Alexander-Arnold were given starts and with the Reds playing an awkward 3-5-2 formation, things were not working out. Jon Walters gave the home side the lead after a swift counter attack and that is how things remained at the half.
Klopp knew he had to turn things around and brought on Coutinho and Firmino, who both scored within a minute of one another thus ensuring the Reds stay in third at least for the weekend. The win also showed that the Reds can comeback from a goal down against a tough side and surely will give them confidence going into the final few games of the season.
Twitter went ballistic with the win, especially after the incredible volley scored by Firmino and some great saves from Simon Mignolet. This comeback win means that the Reds have now won 18 points from losing positions in the Premier League this season, more than any other side and we share the best tweets from the game.
That’s twice now this season that Liverpool have allowed Jon Walters a modicum of happiness before snatching it away again.
Excellent.
